How to Measure a Wall for a Wallpaper Mural: A Simple 5-Step Guide

If you're planning to install a new wallpaper mural, one of the first questions you'll probably ask is: How do I measure my wall correctly?

The good news is that measuring your wall is quick and easy. Accurate measurements ensure that your custom wallpaper is produced to fit perfectly, minimizing waste and avoiding surprises during installation.

1. Measure the Width of the Wall

Using a measuring tape, measure the full width of the wall from one side to the other.

If the wall is not perfectly straight, measure it in several places and use the largest measurement.

2. Measure the Height

Measure the height from the floor to the ceiling.

We recommend measuring the height on the left, center, and right side of the wall, then using the largest measurement.

3. Don't Subtract Windows or Doors

One of the most common questions we receive is whether windows and doors should be deducted from the wall dimensions.

The answer is simple – no.

Your wallpaper mural is produced according to the full wall dimensions. Openings for windows and doors are trimmed during installation, ensuring that the design flows seamlessly across the entire wall.

4. Take a Photo of the Wall

A photo isn't required, but it can be very helpful.

It allows us to suggest the best placement of the design, adjust the layout if necessary, and make sure important parts of the artwork won't be hidden behind furniture, a TV, or a doorway.

5. Send Us Your Measurements

Once you send us:

  • the wall width,
  • the wall height,
  • a photo of the wall (optional),

we'll prepare a custom preview tailored specifically to your space.

This allows you to see exactly how your wallpaper mural will look before it goes to print.

Why Choose a Custom Wallpaper Mural?

Unlike standard wallpapers, a custom wallpaper mural is produced specifically for the dimensions of your wall.

This provides several advantages:

  • a perfectly fitted design,
  • no unnecessary trimming of important artwork,
  • a professional final appearance,
  • less material waste during installation.
